At the Lugovskoye field, another important stage of preparation for pilot testing of the MTT technology has been completed - specialists have successfully extracted 18 meters of core from a depth of 1372-1380 meters. At the same time, the core yield was 100% which is an excellent result for such work.
A core is a rock sample that is extracted from the subsurface in the condition in which it was underground. In fact, this is an opportunity to literally look inside the reservoir and study its properties.
The samples have now been sent to Kazan Federal University (KFU) where specialists will conduct a complex of laboratory tests. They will make it possible to determine the oil saturation of the rock, study its filtration and storage properties and simulate how the reservoir will react to the effects of supercritical water.
Why is this important? Core research helps to better understand the processes that occur inside the reservoir. The data obtained will be compared with the results of future pilot tests which will make it possible to evaluate the MTT effectiveness and form a scientifically validated model of its impact on the reservoir. The first results of the research are expected within the next two to three weeks.
